World Autism Awareness Day

World Autism Awareness Day

Sunday 3rd April 2022
Veronica Dunning, BCBA, QBA

Today is autism awareness day, but I've been reminded of autism every day of my son's and clients' lives, not because of them but because of others.

I am very proud of Sammy and all the people we serve, who are unique in their own way and beautiful because of it.

We are here to support their learning when they want to learn, we only help when help is needed and accepted. Assent and dignity are important in our practice. I want to listen and learn too.

Someone asked me recently if I feel sad when I see young people around my son's age who are typical. Sammy isn't less... He's one of my most valued treasures. I am and will always be proud of you Sammy!

Like your mum, dad and sister, you've been walking your journey with pride and with your head held high. Life can be tough for us all but it can be amazing and beautiful too. We are here for you when you need us and we are blessed to share precious moments together with you.

We need integration much more than we need inclusion.

Keep flourishing! ❤️
